Facility

This lab is embedded in a highly active scientific community including leading labs in molecular medicine, metabolic and molecular aging research, developmental biology and biochemistry. The research laboratories are located on the main campus of the University Hospital in close proximity to the Center for Molecular Medicine (ZMMK), the Biocenter, the Institute of Genetics of the University of Cologne and the Max-Planck-Institute for the Biology of Ageing and equipped with state-of-the-art technology for cell biology, imaging, animal research and systems biology studies.

Our young and ambitious team consists of senior and junior postdocs, technicians and graduate students who are interconnected in close collaboration on almost all projects. We are part of the Graduate School for Biological Sciences at the University of Cologne. Interactivity has been the most prominent feature of our successful research team. The lab receives third party funding from different institutions including the German Research Foundation (DFG), the German Ministry for Research and Technology (BMBF), the University of Cologne and several foundations. Our lab is founding member of the Cluster of Excellence on Cellular Stress Responses in Ageing-Associated Diseases (CECAD) which is funded in the framework of the Excellence Initiative of the German Government.

We are part of the following research initiatives:

SFB 832:  “Molekulare Basis und Modulation der zellulären Interaktionen im Tumormikromilieu”

SFB 829: “Molecular Mechanisms regulating Skin Homeostasis”
